IUPS nominates its next President

2009-2013: Professor Denis Noble, President of the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS)

The Nominating Committee of the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS) - announced that it will be recommending, to the General Assembly of the Union, the election of Professor Denis Noble - CBE FRS of Oxford University and also Prinicipal Investigator of the PreDICT FP7 VPH Initiative project - as the next President of IUPS.

The General Assembly will be convened at the 36th International Congress of Physiological Sciences in Kyoto, Japan in July 2009. The Presidency will be held from the Kyoto Congress through to the following World Congress in the UK planned for 2013.

[...] This is a reflection of his strong belief that the pendulum of scientific fashion is swinging back towards the integrative physiological sciences, and that we [within the physiome community] need to ensure effective responses to this challenge, for the benefit of our own science and for that of the many other disciplines (many from the physical as well as the biological sciences) that are involved. As someone who has always straddled the worlds of experimental physiology, mathematics and computing, as well as the philosophical foundations of biological science, the Nominating Committee felt that Denis Noble has unrivalled experience to chart IUPS through the next four years [...]
