Physiome Project: Cardiac Computations
The purpose of the Cardiac Computations project is to develop an efficient simulator for the elctrical and mechanical behavior of the heart.
The purpose of the project is to develop an efficient and accurate simulator for the electrical and mechanical behavior of the heart. Mathematically, the problem is formulated as a system of partial and ordinary differential equations, and the main focus of the project so far has been on solvig these equations efficiently. Recently, the scope has bee extended to using the simulations to study problems related to cardiac function. Particular applications under study include:
- The hearts performance (cardiac output) under normal and pathological conditions
- Predisposing factors for arrhythmias and prospective drug treatments
- Mechanisms of electrical shocks (defibrillation)
- Acronym: CC
- Scope: Computer simulations of heart activitiy
