EuroPhysiome Project: HAEMODEL
Mathematical modelling of the cardiovascular system
Within the Fifth Framework Programme this EU funded Project (HPRN-CT-2002-00270), which has been running since 1-10-2002, has just ended.
Which was the Objective? The multidisciplinary knowledge required for effective research in this area is not available as part of any normal academic curriculum. The training program has been largely focused on individual development and tuition at the various institutes involved. This has been supported and reinforced by an exchange programme between the partners and the project involved more than 60 scientists among applied mathematicians, bioengineers and several clinicians. 12 young researchers (PhD and Post-Doc) have been directly financed by the project. It has organized three one-week international workshops-tutorial sessions (Symposyum on Modeling the Physiological Flows). These are a combination of tutorials on relevant topics of interest by senior group members and lectures and presentations (by group members or others). The second and third workshops have provided an opportunity for research students to present their work.
